Extortions and raids: pressure on Syrian refugees in Lebanon continues.

Access Center for Human Rights (ACHR) monitored extortion violations carried out by a group of people against Syrian refugees in front of ATM machines in the Bekaa region, where six people were caught stalking the “Lebanese-French” bank ATM in the Al-Manara, Zahle, and Gaza in the western Bekaa, intimidating the refugees and forcing them to pay a share of the financial aid allocated to them by the UNHCR.

The General Directorate of State Security issued a statement in which it said: “After receiving information about the persons “M.Q.” and “A.M.” and “H.M.” who were blackmailing the Syrian refugees in the western Bekaa region – Gaza, by pressuring them to hand their credit cards to withdraw money allocated to the Syrians from several banks in the region, taking a percentage of it, and after a court’s order was issued, the General Directorate of Security arrested The three men whose names were mentioned above and they were interrogated and referred to the Public Prosecution Office in the Bekaa to take legal action against them.

Arbitrary security raids continued in the Syrian refugee camps, where refugees’ tents were demolished, with no regard to the urgent need for these tents, especially when some tents were damaged by the recent snowstorm.
